Pocket Piñata Interactive is looking for such an individual to join our game development family as a Game Designer at our Burnaby office.

You will:

  • Define the vision and design for games through all stages of the life cycle.
  • Proactively report risks and issues to the product leadership.
  • Create documents, wireframes, spreadsheets and flows for consumption by a non-designer audience.
  • Design and validate game levels to meet the desired play experience.
  • Generate new game concepts tailored to client needs & player demographics.
  • Mentor and grow other members of the design team.
  • Adhere to and promote studio culture, values, and processes/systems.
  • Collaborate with artists, producers, engineers and other designers with nominal supervision in an agile development environment.
  • Update and expand your design knowledge and skills to stay ahead of industry developments.

You are a great fit for our team if you have:

  • Worked on at least 3 shipped video games.
  • Experience in creating and managing highly balanced game systems and economies.
  • High proficiency in system design, and analytics.
  • Experience with operating in a Product Owner role.
  • Passion for creating fun, compelling and addictive user experiences.
  • Good project management skills, and time management skills with a proven ability to focus on priorities, solve problems, juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, all while maintaining a positive outlook.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences on a broad range of topics, e.g. technical, business and creative (spoken and written).
  • Capable of working with little to no direct supervision.
  • A College Diploma or Degree in video game design and production or equivalent work/educational experience.
  • Proactive, forward-thinking and collaborative with others.
  • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative methods to validate and improve ideas.
  • A genuine interest and keen knowledge of F2P and mobile games.

Having the following skills is a plus:

  • Knowledgeable in Agile Development Methodology. (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Experience in designing mobile touch screen controls.
  • Prototyping and/or wireframing experience.
  • Live game/events experience.
  • Experience utilizing the Unity Game Engine.
  • Experience working on designs from initial creation through to implementation.
  • Understand why an idea will or won’t work, and how to design to hit specific goals.
  • Strong proficiency in English (written, technical).
  • Understanding of current trends in blockchain and its application in games.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages or other technical skills related to game development.
  • Familiarity with Target Process. Miro, Playfab.
  • Experience with both original and IP game development.
